Dev Log September

Dev Log September

Hello everyone I’m back with another dev log. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to keep the dev logs on a monthly basis due to personal stuff. Sadly also the development of Space Conflicts: Empires was on hold for a while as well.

Also I try to keep the technical details out of these dev logs as they are largely unimportant.

Here is what recently changed:

Client

  • Can now display solar systems (star, planets and moons) as generated by the server
  • Initial in-game menu to show various stats about selected moons and planets
  • Planets get replaced by stylized icons if they are further away from the camera this helps to better visualize planets and also has a positive impact on performance on crowded systems
  • Labels are shown above each planet or moon to display their name
  • Changed main menu background scenery
  • Improved shader for gas giants
  • “improved” mycelium shader (not very satisfied with the current result)

Server

  • Reworked the universe generator: Planets and moons now receive a random mass and density which is then used to calculate their biosphere, radius and for planets only the likelihood of having moons

Gameplay

  • Moons have been added to the game

Other

  • Various bug fixes and improvements to the overall code base

Community:

  • Last but not least I also opened up a Discord server for later use when the playable Alpha is out and there is actually something to talk about there. But if you like, feel free to join it today. The ink can be found on the main page of this game.

That’s it and I hope I can keep up with the development and see you next month.
